Stroke Awareness Month

Did you know that up to 80% of strokes may be preventable? May is American Stroke Month to raise awareness about strokes, the symptoms and how to the lower your risk.

According to the American Diabetes Association, if you have diabetes, your chances of having a stroke are 1.5 times higher than people who don’t have diabetes. 

How do you recognize the signs of a stroke? Think F.A.S.T.

  • Face Drooping
  • Arm Weakness
  • Speech Difficulty
  • Time to call 911

So, how do we lower our risk of a stroke? The American Diabetes Association recommends:

  • Keeping your blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol on target
  • Eating healthy
  • Exercising
  • Don’t smoke
