Leaf Raking Safely

Happy Fall, ya’ll! It’s that time of year when many of us tackle the leaves in our yard. Whether you blow, rake, drag, or bag- you will be working hard. Don’t forget to follow safe exercise tips when raking:

  1. Check your blood sugar before you start and then again every hour or so, to make sure you won’t drop too low while working.
  2. Take regular breaks to assess your blood sugar, and keep a sugar source in your pocket or near by, in case you need it.
  3. Stretch, rest and hydrate. You may not realize it, until you start peeling off sweaty layers, but you are exercising! Don’t forget to warm up, cool down, and replenish fluids. Stay safe!
