Diabetes and Depression

Studies cited by the American Diabetes Association say that people with diabetes have a greater risk of suffering from depression than people without diabetes. Perhaps the symptoms of diabetes and depression are themselves a vicious cycle, but regardless of the cause, we need to keep mental health on our radar.

If you or someone you love has diabetes, you should learn about the symptoms of depression. Check out this article by the ADA. Then, be open and willing to talk about mental health with those you love. If you have concerns, start a conversation. See if just talking will help. If not, make a special trip to the doctor for a recommendation to a therapist or counselor. Also, stay involved in a support group. Like us!
